Kongourinji Temple
Kongourinji Temple
Kyoto area
This temple is located in the middle of the three Koto mountains, a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves. Inside the main hall (a national treasure) built in 1288 during the Kamakura period, you can view many Buddhist statues up close, including an Amida Nyorai statue from about 800 years ago during the Heian period.
The scenic garden, built from the Momoyama period through the Edo period, is a typical Japanese garden with a stroll-around pond that is charming in all four seasons.
