According to the abbreviated name of Fukutoku Shrine, it is said that the shrine was already established here around the Jogan era (860-876). The main deity of the shrine is Ukanomitama-no-mikoto, the god of bountiful harvests.

●History

The shrine has been worshipped by many military commanders, including Minamoto no Yoshiie (Hachiman Taro) in the late Heian period and Ota Dokan, who built Edo Castle, in the Muromachi period.

In particular, during the Edo period, the shrine was revered by the Tokugawa family as an auspicious shrine, as the name Fukutoku meant "good fortune for the Tokugawa." When Tokugawa Ieyasu first visited the shrine in 1590, and when the second shogun Hidetada visited in 1614, young buds were seen sprouting from the torii gate made of sawtooth oak, giving the shrine the nickname "Mebuki Inari," and it is still loved by that name today.

It was damaged in the Great Kanto Earthquake and burned down during World War II, but was later rebuilt and has overcome many historical events, and is now bustling with people who come to pray for winning the lottery or tickets to concerts and plays.
